VARF: Variance Factor

This record specifies options for the adjustment variance factor.

The estimated variance factor in a network adjustment is computed from the adjustment residuals, and is a measure of the misfit between the observations in the network. A large variance factor indicates that the residuals are large relative to their standard deviations.

The format of the VARF record is as follows:

Columns 002-005: VARF
Columns 007-009: Variance factor known (YES/NO)
Columns 011-013: Multiply adjustment covariance matrix by variance factor (YES/NO)
Columns 015-017: Multiply residual covariance matrix by variance factor (YES/NO)

Note that this record overrides the corresponding settings in the options file used for the network processing. It is provided for backward compatibility and is not normally used.
