SSS/SSE: SideShot Records

Sideshot records are used to designate stations, and/or observations that are taken to stations, which are not meant to be used in the adjustment process; rather, the goal is to determine the location of stations unrelated to the statistical adjustment process. These stations have their locations found separately from the main adjustment and only for informational purposes.

Sideshot stations will be displayed in a separate color from regular stations, and their locations will be printed separately in the listing file.
Any observations that involve a sideshot station, or that are designated as sideshot observations, will not be used in the adjustment.

Available records:

SSS: Designate the start of one or more sideshot stations or sideshot observations.
SSE: Designate the end of one or more sideshot stations or sideshot observations.

You can use these records to do one or more of the following:

  • Designate Stations as sideshot stations: any observations concerning sideshot stations as an "at", "fr", or "to" station will be ignored in the main adjustment.

  • Designate Observations as sideshot observations: for each sideshot observation, the “to” station will be treated as a sideshot station and its location found regardless of observation type. Any sideshot observations are ignored in the main adjustment.
